“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
I’m a 30-something living in Toronto. While I have a B.Sc. in Conservation and Ecology and a M.Sc. in Biology, yet I’ve always been drawn to matters of health and fitness. You could say I’m interested in wellness in our natural ecosystems as well as our inner ecosystems.
My life turned around over the last few years, I was ‘diagnosed’ with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and started investigating the alternatives to “normal” foods. Gluten, dairy, soy, and sugar were found to be triggers of my symptoms. In 2010, I started livepuretoday.wordpress.com to inspire me to think more about what I put into my body. I wanted my food to be “PURE”! I feel fortunate as I love what I eat, and feel more enriched by my food options than restricted.
As I forged down a path of healing my own health, I was drawn to yoga and nutrition to help alleviate my symptoms. A practitioner and teacher of yoga, I am now in the midst of a diploma of holistic nutrition to bring more to my understanding and be able to help others.
The reasoning behind starting this blog:
I have been inspired by my journey, and want to share the “fruits” of my research and learning over the last few years.
My academic journey was focused on asking questions about the environmental impacts of humans on the earth, while my health journey was focused on the environmental impacts on my body.
I love creating new (and atypical) culinary creations and homemade cosmetics and crafts from local and organic sources. The fresher the harvests the yummier I find it!
I also enjoy exploring the questions about sustainability and the environmental impacts of our food choices. I see the cross links between conservation of my body and the earth and while aiming to live a balanced life, I hope to inspire others to do the same.
